Night Till Dawn Chapter 2

         During the night the operation proceeds with the police on a mission to take down the beast harming the operators and destroying the equipment.

     Everyone was on full alert they put additional Cctv cameras to observe and monitor its movements. What they only saw is a dark shadow of a beast. It moves fast that they can't figure out the actual appearance even if the camera is paused or slowed down. The shadow emerged from the roof of one of the excavators. It hangs upside down and makes a growling sound. The drivers were frightened that they fall to the ground unceremoniously. The police can't shoot exactly the target because it moves very fast but they are determined to do their job. They can't lose. their faces. The beast attack each one of them after the other.

        Lan Yibo has observed the things that are happening. He is getting stressed. The situation is getting out of control. He can't rely on the cops anymore. 

        I have to make a better technique to solve the issues. It's already dawn and everyone that was there on the field was injured. He thought.

         The medical staff tends to the laceration of the men.

      At daybreak, In a small village, the people talk about the attack of the beast on the workers at the site, and even the policemen were injured. The people are worried because some of their family members are working there. If the company stops its operations. The people will lose their jobs. Those who are working there at the company lived simply before but now they can buy the things they want. The company is a great help for their living. Life for them is harder again if the bad things happen to continue. The mining started its operations last year without any trouble. Now that it expands its projects. This thing happened previously. They were also affected by the happenings at the mining company.

        After hearing the news the grandmother left. She returned home and put the things she brought and put them in the proper places. She opened Zhan's room but he was still sleeping. She is wondering why is he so sleepy.

    " I better ask him." She mumbles and shakes the body of the sleeping beauty.    "Hey, Zhan, it's nearing noon and you're still on the bed?" She observes him.

     " Hmmm, I was tired of hunting mamo. I'm only restoring the energy I used."He sits at the edge of the bed while yawning and looking at his grandmother.

       " Hunting, but where are the animals you hunted? Are you now lying to me? I just told you not to go out, especially at night. I heard the news earlier that the attacks recently happened again last night many were injured even the policemen. Imagine even the armed men cannot catch the beast so, you better stay here and don't go out. It's very dangerous." She scolded him and gets annoyed that he didn't listen to her." Dear, please listen to me. What will I do if something happens to you? I only have you. I don't have any other family. You know it don't you remember?"

     " Yes, mamo of course I do remember please don't worry about me I can take care of myself okay. He smiled to assure her. When he is at the right age to understand and remember things, mamo told him the fact that they are not blood-related. Mamo's parents passed away and she doesn't know about her relatives she sold everything of their properties from their residence because she can't stay at their home anymore she was alone and all her parent's memories hurt her so much that's why she decided to go away and traveled to other states. She wanted to go to a place where few people are living like in a rural area. At the terminal, In the passenger's area, She put her luggage below the chair and go to the bathroom but when she came back she heard a baby crying inside it and didn't notice anyone who put him there. She observes the surroundings and notices that a few men are looking for something and they giving off bad vibes. Her instincts tell her that she has to save the baby. She gets away from the place quickly and brought the necessary things for the baby's needs. The first time she saw him she was happy cause she will not be alone in her life. Wei Zhan recalled.

    " Mamo why you didn't try to find my parents that time or surrender me to the authorities? What if I was kidnapped from my family?" Now he was curious. He longed for his parents also.

      " I was thinking that also but when I saw those men I felt strange that instead I seek help and give you to the authorities I keep you safe and I sensed that if I expose you, harm will come in your life." The grandmother explained.

      " Yeah, maybe you're right. I'm glad you're the one who got me and I thank God for that. Mamo, I want to sincerely express my heartfelt gratitude for taking care of me. Maybe someday I will find out about my origin. " His eyes start to tear up. When he was young he felt envy for those children who have parents but Mamo always consoles him. Even though he doesn't have his parents his grandmother gave him all the love he needs and that is enough.

        "Okay, no need to thank me my dear I am the one who is grateful that you were brought to me. I was depressed back then and because of you I was glad and never felt alone anymore." She held him and pat his back. "Now I just realized that I already served my life's purpose and that is by taking care and nurturing you. Looking at you now I know many people will be attracted to your magnificent look." She lowered her hand and look at his face. "What if one day you fell in love and leave me alone here and go with your lover?" 

         Zhan whined. " Mamooo, you know that I don't even have anyone that I like how much more loving someone. Why are you talking about that?"

       " Why are you always out at night? Don't say you're hunting again." Now she's scrutinizing him.

       " How about you mamo why didn't you marry before? I know some men are interested in you. He asks. Then, he turned back to her and do his bedding.

       " Taking care of you is my priority and no one interests me. Now you are talking about me. You're only diverting me so that you can avoid my question." 

    Someone knocks at the door. Grandmother left him to check on the guest. Zhan felt relief.

   " Good morning grandma."The person greets.

    "Good morning too. Come inside first. Why are you here?"

      "Grandma, I brought you and Zhan food." He shyly glances at the approaching Zhan.

    The grandmother smiled and pat his back." How nice of you Pesty your so thoughtful."

     " How many times have I told you don't bother giving us food. We can manage." Zhan said in irritation. He doesn't like Pesty coming there. He's just trying to make a good impression.

     "Zhan, be thankful. It's food from God. Don't ever deny it. It's a blessing." Grandmother reprimands him. " Come on Pesty eat with us. You are good at timing we're having our breakfast."  

         Zhan sighed he doesn't want to talk back at his grandmother because of this Pesty. His name is like a pest that destroys his goodness. He went to the kitchen and set up the dining table. Mamo he's like that because he has an inner motive. Zhan thought. 

           Mamo leads the prayer before they eat. From time to time both of them talked while Zhan only listen and focus only on his food. After they have finished eating Wei Zhan does the dishes. Grandmother works out in her garden helped by Pesty.
